Biography
Old Sea Company was formed in 2021 as a dynamic duo and gradually grew into several different permutations.
Based in Sofia and led by Jack Hughes (piano), the collective includes musicians from Bulgaria and abroad. At this year's Swingin the Bay, you will get to see them as a septet featuring Alexandre Merancienne (alto saxophone), Ilya Gindin (clarinet), Vladi Mitin (trumpet), Ivan Melin (trombone), Vasil Hajigrudev (double bass) and Sergey Korotkov (drums).
Old Sea draws inspiration from an ever-expanding list of musicians: Teddy Wilson, Fats Waller, Cootie Williams, Charlie Christian, Erskine Hawkins, Skeets Tolbert, and countless others.
